Boom repaint for Police EC135

As previously posted EC135 G-CPAS arrived today for a boom repaint.

Police swap

EC145 G-MPSB has been rolled out of the hangar after having Metropolitan Police titles removed, this will fly back to Oxford today. The other 2 ex Met Police EC145's should follow suit in due course. There is rumour that the NPAS operation of the type will cease.

The aircrew flew down in EC135 G-CPAS which needs a boom repaint, the Police aircraft spend quite a lot of time at low speed or in the hover, so the super heated exhaust gases wash down over the boom with the downdraft of the main rotors and damage paint, so a boom repaint is quite normal.

AS365N3 EI-GJL continues in the paintshop and is nearing completion ready for it's anticipated departure back to Multiflight at Leeds-Bradford Airport next week.

An interesting visitor today, Kamov KA-32A12 HB-XKE (s/n: 8709/02) from HeliSwiss, en route back to base after a heavy lift contract in Wales for a couple of days.

It routed to Wales via Shoreham just yesterday.

A run of bigger aircraft

The first of a selection of larger helicopters going through the paintshop at the moment saw this EC155B1 G-LCPX (6748) out of the hangar today, recently registered as such, it was previously operated as G-WINV and G-WJCJ with Starspeed Ltd. for Walid Juffali.

It is now owned by Charterstyle Ltd. who have SA365N2 G-LCPL already and a history of helicopter ownership starting in 2001 with AS355N G-CLIP which soon became G-OLCP which they operated for more than a decade.

Other aircraft coming through at the moment are SA365N3 EI-GJL, as well as an EC135 and EC145.

Another LongRanger - G-JRCR

Bell 206L-1 G-JRCR (45229) arrived today for paint with Edmondson and new interior with Farnborough Aircraft Interiors.

Seen here at Ascot in 2014 by Graeme Lovell, it is not new to this neck of the woods as it was registered to Heliwork Services Ltd. as G-STVI in 1990 when being re-vamped and re-registered for new owner as G-EYRE. It took up new markings of G-JRCR with new owner in 2013.

Another NationalGrid R44

Quite a successful day for our Midlands correspondent, he also captured freshly painted R44 G-RBRI in it's new NationalGrid livery before it departed to East Midlands Helicopter Maintenance for final engineering completion and the vinyl logo's to be applied.

There should be a 3rd machine in this scheme for the contract, probably G-LINZ, but whether or not that comes to Thruxton for paint, we will have to wait and see.

Air Ambulance in the sun

Our visiting Midlands correspondent Graeme Lovell came down to Thruxton on Friday to have a look around before attending the Gazelle 50th event at Middle Wallop on Saturday.

He caught the HIoW Air Ambulance nicely, landing in the afternoon sun.

Guimbal Cabri invasion

A new regular type at Thruxton from now on I think..... The Guimbal Cabri G2 G-CHWJ is one of a small fleet being operated by Vantage Aviation Ltd. out of Old Sarum, these are now maintained at Heliwork.

Others of the type seen recently include G-OCDO, G-ONVG as well as other members of the Vantage fleet B206 G-BXKL and leased in G-CILJ, although the latter is still maintained at Skytech I think.

Although not connected to Vantage Cabri G2 G-SDTL is also here as well as Gazelle G-EZEL, both coming in from Bourne Park.

New livery for the HIoW Air Ambulance

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance EC135T3 (1190) G-HIOW has a few minor changes to it's scheme reflecting a new brand livery.

The marketing staff of the charity would have you believe "The change in the brand reflects the changes that have occurred in the service over the last 10 years......"  whilst I agree that the service has evolved and changed a lot over the last 10 years, I'm not really quite sure how a change in livery says anything like that....

Heli Air visitor

On the field outside the Heli Air hangar today was AS355F1 (5261) G-PIPB, looks to have been here overnight as it was tied down.

Not an unusual visitor as it is owned by Heli Air, but not seen frequently here.

Unique scheme on R66 G-PODD

An early visit to Thruxton this morning saw the departure of newly painted R66 G-PODD. Looking quite striking in it's new scheme. Reminiscent of an AAC Gazelle in the 1990's.....

It is now back at Heli Air at Booker.

50th anniversary of the Gazelle event at Middle Wallop

The 50th anniversary of the first flight of the Gazelle is just around the corner, and to mark the occasion a fly-in has been organised at the home of the British military Gazelle - Middle Wallop on Saturday 8th April 2017. Follow the link below for more details including a list of booked visitors.

The first prototype SA.340 flew for the first time on 7th April 1967, it initially flew with a conventional tail rotor taken from the Alouette II. The tail was replaced in early 1968 with the distinctive fenestron tail on the second prototype. The first production Gazelle conducted its first flight on 6th August 1971.

Still in use today by the AAC, and with a good number of them now in civilian hands based at Bourne Park, it's distinctive fenestron whine can still be heard over the skies of Hampshire on a regular basis.

Visiting JetRanger

Bell 206B G-CILJ (1153) owned by Apple International of Norwich, but leased in by Vantage Aviation for their training contract based out of Old Sarum visited Thruxton today.

It's visit is probably linked with the first maintenance visit of Carbi G2 G-OCDO (1133) to Heliwork.

Nice visitor today, new R66 G-TRON (0731) was here with Heli Air. Recently registered to PFR Aviation Ltd., the aircraft is on leaseback to Heli Air at Denham.

After the holidays....

A regular over-the-top sighting going from it's south west base to London is Bell 206B (2270) G-RNBW, this flew into the field last week and is now at Heliwork for some maintenance work.

Another JetRanger coming in for maintenance and restoration to airworthiness is Bell 206B (925) G-SDCI which has been in storage for a couple of years. It should be arriving by road this week.

Agusta A109E (11769) N53BK is in for paint for Arena Aviation Ltd., one of a pair of machines recently acquired by them, these will go onto the G- register for AOC work after they are painted. N53BK should transfer to G-TXTV and emerge in a dark blue\silver scheme. R22B (2048) G-BUBW has just been rebuilt by HQ Aviation Ltd. at Denham and has been sold to a new owner - Julian Darker who had R22B (0534) G-JATD in the early 2000's.
